The word “எப்பொழுது” (Eppolutu) translates to “When” in English. “எப்பொழுது” (Eppolutu) is a reinterpretation of the original performance titled Walking without Boundaries, which was not permitted to be performed at the Singapore Biennale 2016. The work delves into the historical context of Indian convicts being transported to Singapore as laborers during the British occupation. Despite their significant contributions, their role remains unrecognized in our national narrative today.

My inquiry regarding the performance restriction is not about ‘why’ but ‘when.’ In other words, I am questioning when society will be ready to embrace our past cultural narratives. Until then, I have taken a blood oath to ‘mark’ my body as a calendar, counting each day until society is ready to embrace our past cultural narratives

எப்பொழுது a re-interpretation of the work Unwalked Boundaries (Singapore Biennale 2016)

It has been 3123 days 11 hours 6 minutes 53 seconds as today. I am still waiting for when can I perform “Unwalked Boundaries”.

Please note that the markings on the skin do not cause any damage or harm. The process is purely a symbolic interpretation of marking the body as a calendar
